As the war in Ukraine continues, voices in the media continue to clamor for a No-Fly Zone, even though that would result in war between US/NATO and Russia, a war that can only end in nuclear winter.
War is always a tragedy. As socialists, we should always support a path to peace. Long-term peace between Russia, Ukraine and the rest of Europe cannot exist as long as NATO, an aggressive, expansionist bloc, remains to destabilize relations.
This conflict did not come out of nowhere in the last few months.
In 2014, a coup supported by the West took place in Ukraine that replaced the neutral government of Viktor Yanukovych with a staunchly anti-Russia government. This coup created the essential preconditions for the current crisis and war.
To learn more about the coup that led us to the war today, we invite you to join PSL Rhode Island for a documentary film, Ukraine on Fire. This film shows how a 2014 demonstration in Ukraine turned into a coup by revealing secret efforts by Western clandestine agencies working with far-right forces, leading to a regime change.
Light refreshments will be provided.
